The corral, a metal frame anchored in concrete, required the use of metal bladed Sawzalls to remove the sections pinning the horse down. Once the corral was cut away the horse was too weak from his ordeal to rise on his own. Rescue personnel then administered oxygen to the horse, as well as, dog biscuits to calm him. While medical measures were being administered to the horse other personnel began affixing rescue ropes and webbing to and around the equine patient. According to Battalion 10 Chief Ray Blankenheim, this past weekend’s Chili Cook Off Tug-O-War then became a warm up as members of CDF and Battalion 10 used those same skills to right the horse in front of an appreciative family.
