Both drivers were hospitalized with major injuries. A Toyota Scion behind the Camry swerved to avoid colliding with the Honda and ran off the road. Eight passengers on the bus suffered minor to moderate injuries. In all, 4 people were airlifted to nearby hospitals with major injuries and 8 were transported by ambulance with minor to moderate injuries. The crash occurred at about 6:30 on Sunday evening east of Bamert Rd near the Amador - San Joaquin County line. Emergency crews, sheriff’s deputies and highway worked for hours assisting victims, getting the bus upright and investigating the crash – Highway 88 was closed in both directions until 2 am. The tour bus was returning to San Francisco after a day at the Jackson Rancheria Casino. At airtime, this collision is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
