A reminder notice from the Amador County Elections department for Voters who vote at the Sutter Terrace Mobile Home Park. The election department wants all these citizens to be aware that the construction of the bypass road on State Hwy 49 has closed the entrance from highway 49. Voters must use Sutter Hill Road, to Bryson Drive to Del Vista to enter the mobile home park.

 

 

A massive manhunt is underway this morning involving Amador County Sheriff’s Department Deputies, Amador CHP Units, Sac Co Sheriff’s Deputies after a Sacramento County Deputy was shot and killed this morning. A nursing supervisor at the U.C. Davis Medical Center says a Sacramento County Sheriff's deputy died after being shot early this morning. Law enforcement officers believe the deputy was shot after a traffic stop. When dispatch did not hear from the deputy after the traffic stop at Dillard and Meiss Road at about 3:27 a.m., Sheriff's deputies were sent to investigate and found the six-year veteran shot. Investigators with the Sheriff's department, Elk Grove Police department and California Highway Patrol are searching for a suspect near Sloughhouse off of Jackson Highway in southeastern Sacramento County. They believe the suspect may have fled in a white Chevy van, possibly into Amador County. This manhunt is impacting Amador county residents as multiple road closures along Hwy 16, as well as, detours will impact your morning commute. Amador County SO deputies are also assisting in the manhunt with deputies and K-9 units

Major changes could soon take place to federally managed lands in and around Amador County when the Bureau of Land Management adopts their new Sierra Resource Management Plan. The purpose of the plan, which was recently discussed at a public meeting, is to provide guidance in the management of the 231,386 acres of land under the BLM umbrella. The plan is designed to lead to some defined outcomes and results with the first goal to develop land ownership and access patterns in response to urban growth issues while at the same time consolidating BLM’s land management responsibilities. The second goal is to guide and focus recreational activities in the area. 

This week’s Jackson City Council meeting began with public comment from a Jackson resident who lives on Agate place. Joan Croix was concerned about speed of vehicles on Placer Drive. She asked about speed maximums and possibly additional signage to alert motorist to the fact that kids may be playing in street. City Manager Mike Daly said that the discussion could possibly appear as a future agenda topic. Nina Machado of First Five Amador made a brief presentation updating the board on the new Amador Cooperative Preschool which is located at 101 Shopping Circle Drive in Jackson. The building was purchased by the ATCAA with Community Development Block Grand funds obtained by the City in 2001.

According to News10 legal motions were filed in Sacramento and San Francisco federal courtrooms Monday seeking to cap the inmate population in California prisons.

On Saturday, October 28, local volunteers from the Foothill Conservancy, Earth Team, and U.S. Forest Service spent the day on West Panther Creek monitoring changes in the creek channel where a Pacific Gas and Electric Company dam was removed in 2003. West Panther Creek is a tributary to the North Fork of the Mokelumne River.  “Removing the dam on West Panther allowed fish to swim up and down the creek for the first time in 68 years,” said Pete Bell, Foothill Conservancy Vice President. 

Amador County Unified School District’s new transportation facility is nearly complete. The facility which has been under construction for nearly two years has faced many obstacles, including earth moving concerns due to asbestos, arsenic in the soil, and delays in the manufacture of the actual building due to Hurricane Katrina. The facility is located off of Lower Ridge Rd and Bowers Drive, behind the Bowling Alley on Sutter Hill. The facility’s construction was also part of the Master Agreement between the school district and District Attorney Todd Riebe as part of the agreement that put Amador County Unified School District Buses back on the road in 2003 after the transportation department was basically closed down due to safety concerns. 

On Friday November 3, 2006 at approximately 8pm, the Amador County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a female victim who reported her husband, who was under the influence of prescription medication, had become enraged regarding their pending divorce and a relationship she had with a neighbor.  The woman said that her husband acquired a handgun from a hidden location under the residence and then pointed it to her head.  The victim reported that the firearm was loaded as she could see ammunition in the cylinder.  She stated her husband threatened to kill her, the neighbor and then himself.
