California's New Legislature

California's newly sworn in Legislature is taking up where the old one left off, with bills addressing gay marriage and Central Valley flooding among the first to be introduced.

Calaveras County Supervisors have voted to follow in Amador County’s footsteps when they voted Monday to stop all new developments that require General Plan amendments or zoning changes.
This last Saturday a recurring problem caused some commotion in downtown Sutter Creek. Fortunately, the fast action of city crews resolved the potentially serious problem quickly.

Chavez Re-elected

"Long live the revolution!" Chavez the newly reelected Hugo Chavez from the balcony of the presidential palace.
White House national security adviser Stephen Hadley said Sunday that President Bush realizes "we need to make some changes" in Iraq policy. Bush is willing to listen to proposals for a change, Hadley said on NBC's "Meet the Press," and will receive some proposals Wednesday when the Iraq Study Group presents its report.
