In a daring daytime raid, gunmen wearing the uniforms of Iraqi security forces kidnapped between 100 and 150 people Tuesday morning, the country's minister of higher education told parliament. Abed Dhiyab al-Ajili ordered universities closed until security improves, calling the situation unsafe.

Late Friday afternoon traffic on Ridge Rd was tied up due to a traffic collision. However there was even more of a drama in the traffic back up as local law enforcement positioned themselves to pull over a stolen car. Apparently, a Sutter Creek police officer had ran the plates of the gray colored Hyundai Elantra when that vehicle made its way through the city. The plate return on the car came back as stolen out of Stockton. 

Unit Chief Bill Holmes will formally end the 2006 Fire Season in the Amador-El Dorado Unit of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF) today, Monday, November 13, 2006 at 8 a.m.  The unit includes Amador and El Dorado counties as well as the eastern foothills of Sacramento County. Burn Permits are not required, but the Air Quality Management District will be determining “burn days” or “no burn days” until May 1, 2007 when burn permits will again be required.

The Plymouth City Council last week heard the first reading of a new broadcasting ordinance. This ordinance has to do with the amount of noise “broadcasted” specifically, from a vehicles stereo system. This ordinance is being sought as a preemptive measure by the city to help control gangs any growth of gangs in the area. The ordinance would restrict drivers from playing music loud enough to be heard  25 feet away a vehicle. The California Department of Motor Vehicles currently has a vehicle code that requires a 50 foot buffer zone for cars in the state of California.
