A ”Be On The Look Out” was issued for two men in a green Toyota RAV4 that had reportedly stolen a fishing pole at the Bear River Reservoir. A resident at Bear River Reservoir called in a complaint to the Sheriff's Office that someone had stolen a fishing poll and a can of gas from his residence. The resident was able to provide law enforcement with a license plate number for the thieves, and Amador County Sheriff’s Dispatch reported that the plate came back to a stolen motor vehicle. 

The City of Ione is proud to announce that the Police Department has recently been awarded first place in the 2006 California Law Enforcement Challenge competition for Police Department’s with 10 officers or less. The Law Enforcement Challenge is a competition between similar sizes and types of law enforcement agencies.  It recognizes and rewards the best overall traffic safety programs in the United States. 

The Jackson Planning Commission met last night and one of the items before them was the review of the Conditional Use Permit for K. Hovnanian Forecast Homes Temporary Model Home Sales Office.  On November 20, 2006 the Planning Commission reviewed the businesses request for a conditional use permit to operate their temporary model home sales office in Pine Meadows subdivision on Scottsville Boulevard. At that time the office included signs and flags, which many nearby residents said were not appropriate for a residential neighborhood.

The last couple of weekends Amador County roadways have been fairly quiet, but by the time Friday rolled around it was clear that this weekend would be different. The first accident to be reported occurred on Friday at 11:15am on Hwy. 88 and Van De Hei Ranch Road.

Last evening around 6 pm The Amador County Sheriff’s Department, Jackson Valley Fire and American Legion Ambulance all received the worst kind of call at Lake Camanche North Shore Day Use area: a call regarding a missing person, last seen near the water. As the Sheriff’s Department coordinated the search, fire and medics arrived on scene. The subject was located around 6:19 pm by search crews and waiting medics immediately began life saving efforts. An air ambulance was ordered to transport the victim and then cancelled as emergency personnel opted to transport the patient to Sutter Amador Hospital instead. There is no word yet this morning on the victim’s conditition.

Several Fires were reported around the region yesterday afternoon around the 3 o’clock hour. Amador-El Dorado CalFire units were spread thin outside the county responding to both a fire in Calaveras County and one in Sacramento County. The Calaveras County incident, near Paloma, was reported around 3:30 pm as a grass fire along the intersection of Hwy 49 and 26 outside Mokelumne Hill. Its location was soon narrowed down to a fire in the Paloma area near Goodell Road. Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit crews were dispatched to the scene as well as several Amador El Dorado Units. Air Support was also called in to fight the brush fire.

A Folsom man suffered major injuries yesterday afternoon in a single vehicle collision involving him and his Harley. The accident occurred at about 12:13 pm on Sutter Creek Rd. The man, who remains unidentified, was airlifted from Westover Field to Mercy San Juan Hospital. The collision is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

The city of Plymouth recently approved their new budget for fiscal year 07-08. The budget includes a new office manager position and anticipates that Amador Water Agency expenses will be cut in half. After a special budget workshop earlier in the month, the Plymouth City Council received the final draft of the budget at their most recent city council meeting, which was last Thursday. Councilwoman Patricia Fordyce was leery of approving the budget that she had received the same night.

The Amador Water Agency Board of Directors meeting was short and to the point on Thursday as the Board had 2 main items before them. The first item that the board reviewed was a nomination to the Association of California Water Agencies or ACWA region 3. According to the ACWA website, “Since ACWA was founded in 1910, representing and providing key services to members has been ACWA’s most important charge.
