The Volkswagen ran off the road and into a ditch becoming stuck and the driver of the red sedan fled the scene. The Cordova man was uninjured in the accident. Later on Saturday at approximately 7:09pm an unaware driver caused an accident involving 3 vehicles. According to the Officer Cheryl Wilburn’s report a black and white CHP patrol car was traveling east bound on Hwy. 88 with all the emergency lights activated and siren sounding. As required when an emergency vehicle has their lights activated and siren sounding, J. Orr, 60 of Mountain Ranch immediately slowed and yielded to the right of the westbound lane. M. Isaacson, 49 of San Jose was behind Orr and also started to slow in order to stop. R. Ceremello, 40 of Clovis was not as aware as the other drivers and initially failed to yield to the emergency vehicle and safely reduce his speed. Ceremello also failed to perceive that traffic directly in front of him was yielding. As a result of his inattentiveness Ceremello drove his 2001 Dodge into the rear of Isaacson’s vehicle.

The initial impact propelled Isaacson’s 1996 GMC forward into Orr’s 1992 Chevy before deflecting and coming to rest to the south of Hwy. 88. Isaacson, who received the initial impact, suffered from major injuries and was transported to SAH with multiple fractures. 2 passengers involved in the crash also had minor injuries. Approximately 3 hours later, at 9:55 pm, 61 year old Thomas Fischer of Orangevale was driving his 1989 Chevy while intoxicated on Latrobe road. According to Officer Craig Zaragoza, Fischer drove off the road due to his intoxication and ran into a tree. Fischer suffered minor injuries and was arrested for driving under the influence. On Sunday afternoon an accident occurred when David Stankalis, 60 and of Volcano was traveling east bound on Shake Ridge Road, west of Soke Springs Road at legal speeds.

According to Investigating Officer Cheryl Wilburn, while exiting a right curve in the roadway Stankalis lost control of his 1978 Chevy causing his vehicle to leave the roadway. He overcorrected, re-entered the roadway and then crossed over both the east and west bound lanes and drove off the north roadway edge. The Chevy continued down a steep embankment and collided with a large oak tree. Stankalis was injured in the collision and had moderate contusions, however he refused assistance from persons that stopped to aide him. Wilburn’s report indicates that Stankalis fled the scene, but was located a short time later.
