slide12District Attorney Todd Riebe has filed 8 felony charges against Stephen Kent Schumann, 66, of Jackson for the Thursday May 3rd incident in which Schumann threatened to kill his family- and threatened Amador County Sheriff’s Deputies by brandishing a firearm.

Schumann was shot by a deputy after refusing multiple commands and instructions from those deputies. Schumann remained combative even after having been disabled by the deputy’s shots. According to the criminal complaint filed in Amador County Superior Court Schumann is being charged with six felony counts of assault on a Peace Officer, or Firefighter, with a semi automatic firearm, as well as a special allegation of the attempt to use a deadly weapon. This special allegation will make Schumann, if convicted, ineligible for parole.

Schumann is not allowed to own or possess these weapons because he is a repeat offender that was convicted in the last 10 years of Penal Code 422. This Penal Code includes willfully threatening to commit a crime which will result in death or great bodily injury to another person, with the specific intent to threaten an individual. Schumann’s next court date is May 24th at 2pm. Schumann is represented by Jackson Attorney, and former, DA Steve Celenti.
