Amador County, CA (August 15, 2014) - Blue Shield of California Foundation today announced a grant of $15,000 to Operation Care to support their capacity to provide critical services and shelter for survivors of abuse in Amador County. These core operating funds offer the flexibility to respond to new demands and opportunities, so that Operation Care can continue to reach many of the most vulnerable Californians.

"As the state's largest private funder of domestic violence services and prevention, the Foundation is committed to supporting strong organizations like Operation Care," said Peter Long, Ph.D., president and CEO of Blue Shield of California Foundation. "Ensuring they have the resources to adapt and meet the needs of all survivors is critical to achieving our ultimate mission of ending domestic violence in California."

The Foundation recognizes that reliable and flexible core support is needed to help the field drive even greater impact, and adjust to changes and challenges as they arise.

"We are grateful to the Blue Shield of California Foundation for recognizing the work we do to help survivors of domestic violence establish a new household, said Tammie Crabtree, Executive Director of Operation Care. "These funds will be used to manage our new Fresh Start program, helping our safe house clients transition into a violence-free home and providing ongoing case management to help ensure success. A majority of our fundraisers have benefitted the Fresh Start Program, but being able to use these BSCF funds for overhead and administrative costs ensures that the donations from our community go directly towards our clients."
This funding is part of a group of grants designed to empower California's domestic violence services providers, and enable them to continue making a difference in the lives of thousands of victims, survivors, and families. The Foundation is proud to support Operation Care and nearly every shelter and domestic violence service organization in California.

The U.S. Forest Service today announced that in anticipation of releasing a Notice of Intent (NOI) at the end of this month, it is scheduling public meetings for the following dates and locations:

§  6:00-8:00pm - Monday, September 15, Sierra National Forest, Holiday Inn, 5090 East Clinton Way, Fresno, CA

§  6:00-8:00pm - Tuesday, September 16, Sequoia National Forest, Supervisor’s Office, 1839 South Newcomb Street, Porterville, CA

§  6:00-8:00pm - Thursday, September 18, Inyo National Forest, Tri-County Fairgrounds, Sierra Street & Fair Drive, Bishop, CA

The NOI will inform the public of the Forest Service’s intent to prepare and develop an environmental impact statement (EIS) that, when completed, will revise forest plans for the Inyo, Sequoia and Sierra National Forests.  The NOI will also have information on the purpose and need for this action along with the agency’s proposed action.  The final EIS will result in three separate Records of Decision and three separate forest plans.  Forest Supervisors will remain the “responsible official” for making decisions on their specific forest plans.

The Sierra, Sequoia and Inyo are three of eight national forests that were selected as “early adopters,” meaning they will be the first forests to revise their land management plans using the new National Forest System Planning Rule, which was completed in 2012.  The planning rule provides the framework for Forest Service land management plans across the nation.

Next month’s public meetings are part of the “scoping period” which gives the public a chance to tell the Forest Service what issues and concerns they think should be addressed in the EIS before the Forest Service begins drafting the document, and to provide written public comment regarding the NOI’s purpose and need, and its proposed action.

For more information regarding forest plan revisions, visit the Pacific Southwest Region’s planning website at:www.fs.usda.gov/main/r5/landmanagement/planning.

For forest-specific information, please contact that forest directly:

Notification at least 48 hours prior to the meeting will enable the Forest Service to make reasonable arrangements.

2014-15 Unsecured Taxes Delinquent

Amador County Treasurer/Tax Collector Michael E. Ryan is reminding taxpayers that unsecured taxes for the 2014-2015 fiscal year are due and payable, and will become delinquent if not paid by 5 pm on Tuesday, September 2, 2014. (These taxes would normally be delinquent after August 31, but since August 31 falls on a Sunday this year, and since Monday, September 1 is a holiday, the delinquent date is being extended to the next business day). Unsecured taxes are typically owed on boats, airplanes, business property, possessory interests, and mining claims. After September 2, delinquent unsecured taxes will be subject to a 10% penalty. Additional penalties and fees will accrue if these taxes remain unpaid after October 31, 2014.

Payments may be made by mail sent to the Amador County Tax Collector, 810 Court Street, Jackson, CA 95642, and must be postmarked by the delinquent date of September 2, 2014 to avoid late penalties. Payments may also be made in person at the address shown above during normal business hours. Additionally, payments may be made with a credit card or debit card in the Tax Collector’s Office, or over the telephone by calling 1- 800-609-4599. Credit card, debit card, and e-check payments may also be made over the Internet by visiting the websites shown on the County tax bill. Convenience fees will apply to all payments made by credit card and e-check.

Any questions regarding unsecured property taxes should be addressed to the Amador County Tax Collector at (209)223-6364.
