Don’t Drink and Drive: Weekend Accidents

PictureTwo driving under the influence related accidents were reported in the Camanche area this past weekend by the California Highway patrol. The first accident involved James Kevin Boyd, 42, who was east bound on Camanche Parkway North on Saturday at around 5pm. Boyd was traveling at an estimated speed of 35-40 miles per hour on the roadway when a group of teenagers yelled for Boyd to slow down from the South Shoulder of the road as he came around a curve. According to Officer Brian Hagemann’s report, due to Boyd’s level of intoxication, he decided to slam on his brakes and back up to yell at the pedestrians.

. Instead, Boyd lost control of his 1991 Ford while backing up and then the rear of his vehicle hit an embankment causing the vehicle to overturn. The accident is still under investigation and Boyd may be charged with misdemeanor DUI pending review. Hours later at 11pm another accident occurred that was also the result of an intoxicated driver. 34 year old Brian Guardias of Redding was driving south bound on Buena Vista Rd. just north of the Calaveras County Line at an unknown rate of speed. According to Officer Cheryl Wilburn’s report, due to Guaridas’ level of intoxication, he allowed his 1992 Ford to leave the right side of the roadway. Guardias over corrected and lost control of the vehicle. The Ford continued into the field west of Buena Vista Rd. and struck a fence and rolled onto it’s roof. Guardias was airlifted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto where he was treated for multiple lacerations to his head and face. Guardias was also arrested for driving while under the influence.
