"Before you go to bed this Saturday night, turn the clock back one hour, and replace the battery in every smoke detector in your home. Then you can sleep soundly knowing that you've provided one of the best ways to protect your family from fire." Every year lives are lost in homes were there is no smoke detector, or a non-functioning smoke detector. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the households with non-working smoke detectors now outnumber those with no smoke detectors. “The end of daylight-saving time is an easy way to remember to do this very important task,” adds Chief Grijalva. “I urge everyone to change their batteries in their smoke detectors every six months. Remember, almost every day a smoke detector saves somebody’s life. It’s up to you to protect yourself and your family.” Find more information on smoke detectors and other fire safety tips visit www.fire.ca.gov.
