Amador County – The Amador County Worker’s Compensation Fraud Unit found out last week that it received an increase in state funding.
Amador County District Attorney Todd D. Riebe announced last week that his office has received a $430,000 grant to fight worker’s compensation fraud, for the three-county area the local unit serves.
Riebe said the California State Department of Insurance recently distributed $32 million in grants to district attorneys across California to “combat workers compensation fraud.” The Amador County District Attorney’s Office received $430,000, which was “an increase over its 2010 grant award.”
The Amador County Worker’s Compensation Fraud Unit also serves Calaveras and Placer counties, Riebe said. Several other Sacramento-area district attorneys also received part of the state-wide grants awarded. Sacramento County received $900,000; El Dorado County received $330,000; and Yolo County received $245,000.
Riebe said “counties submit grant applications to the Department of Insurance and a review panel recommends funding to the Insurance Commissioner.”
He said the “grant funds to combat fraud are always appreciated, but particularly in today’s environment as the economy struggles to recover.” Riebe said “cheaters place additional strain on the system and contribute to the increased cost of goods and services for all Californians.”
