Ione Police Department Sergeant Rocky Harphan released details of the incident and following arrest Saturday. He said authorities received a “9-1-1 call at about 5:50 p.m. on Tuesday July, 5th for an unconscious male, not breathing on South Ione Street,” and it “led to the arrest of a parolee for various drug charges.”

Officers from Ione Police Department along with personnel from Ione Fire Department and American Legion Ambulance Services “responded and immediately began rendering aid,” Harpham said. “After several tense moments, 46-year-old Jack Morrison of Sacramento was resuscitated.

“Ione Police officers learned that Morrison had just injected himself with heroin,” he said. “More heroin and paraphernalia for the use of heroin was found” on the scene. “Morrison is on state parole and federal probation and had only been out of prison for four days,” Harpham said.

“Heroin and other opiate use in Ione continues to be a serious problem.” Anyone with any information on the sale or use of opiates or any illegal drugs is asked to contact the Ione Police Department or the Amador County Combined Narcotics Enforcement Taskforce. Both agencies will receive anonymous information.
