Morton said a family of four had launched a raft at Box Beach off Electra Road. The raft “got past the Highway 49 bridge about a mile and they were swamped” in rough water, and lost their raft. Responders arrived on the scene and were surprised to find a woman who was 34 weeks pregnant and coming away from the river.

Responders then searched for the man and two boys, who disappeared from the woman. Searchers found them about a mile down the Mokelumne River, at the Middle Bar Bridge. Morton said they were all reunited later, and the “outcome was very pleasant.” He said the search and rescue included personnel from Jackson Fire, Cal Fire, California Highway Patrol, and a lot of Amador County Sheriff’s Office personnel, along with a CHP helicopter.

Also in June, Morton said the fire department had 98 calls, including 8 traffic collisions. Of the total calls, 24 were outside of city limits.

Jackson Police Chief Scott Morrison reported that JPD responded to 625 calls for service, which was about normal for June. But he said they had “numerous arrests for domestic violence,” which typically increases with warmer weather. That included 5 felony arrests for domestic violence.

JPD took 77 crime reports in June, and there were 401 officer-initiated incidents. There were also 4 reports of grand theft, 11 for petty theft, and 40 calls for disturbing the peace.
