Nomination period opens for local community service, water district board elections

The nomination period opened Monday, and will last through August.

Amador County Registrar of Voters, Sheldon D. Johnson last week announced the candidate filing dates for the Uniform District Election Law Election which will be held on Nov. 8 to fill 33 board of directors vacancies in 12 different special districts in Amador.

Four of the special districts each have two commission or board seats up for election. They are the Drytown County Water District, Pine Grove Community Services District, Ranch House Estates CSD, and Sutter Creek Fire Protection District.

Seven special districts each have three positions to be decided in the Nov. 8 election. These are the Fiddletown Community Services District, Ione Memorial District, Lockwood Fire Protection District, Pine Acres CSD, Rabb Park CSD, Ridgewood Acres CSD, and Sunset Heights CSD.

The River Pines Public Utilities District has four director positions to be decided in the election.

Nomination petitions for eligible candidates may be obtained from the office of the secretary of the respective district, or from the Registrar of Voters at the County Administration Center, 810 Court Street in Jackson, on or after July 18 and must be filed not later than 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12.

If nomination papers for an incumbent are not filed, the voters shall have until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17 to nominate candidates other than the incumbent for such office.

“For all offices, candidates must be a registered voter residing within the District;” Johnson said, “however, for two of the positions on the Ione Memorial District, the candidates must be a veteran in addition to a registered voter residing within the District.”
