Sutter Amador Hospital announces the addition of a new lab manager

Mangunlay has more than four years’ experience as a laboratory lead technologist and more than 15 years’ experience as a clinical lead scientist.

Mangunlay will be responsible for managing day-to-day activities and resources of Sutter Amador Hospital clinical laboratory and off-site lab draw station.

Kim Vagt, Director of Ancillary Services said the hospital is “pleased to have Michael join our team of laboratory professionals.” Vagt said Mangunlay “comes to us highly qualified and possesses the skills to be a wonderful leader for our lab.”

Regional Laboratory Director Christine Flaherty said that by “coming to us from Modesto Memorial,” Mangunlay “understands and embraces the Sutter Difference. He is excited by this opportunity because the SAH laboratory staff is known to be highly focused on providing excellent service to our physicians and patients.”

Mangunlay comes from Doctors Hospital in Manteca and Modesto Memorial Hospital in Modesto. Before that he worked for Kaiser Permanente and Quantico Naval Medical Clinic in Virginia.

Mangunlay’s responsibilities included supervision of hematology and/or coagulation, blood bank, chemistry and urinalysis. He was also instrumental in the revision of laboratory training guides and has a broad range of experience in overall laboratory operations.

A board-certified Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Mangunlay is a Medical Technologist in the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. He has a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia and received valuable leadership, emergency and customer service training through the U.S. Navy.

Mangunlay is currently working toward his Masters of Health Administration through the University of Phoenix, and lives in Stockton with his wife, Tracy; and son, Adam.

SAH’s laboratory services offer same-day results for most draws, and automatic electronic results sent to your physician. It has two Jackson locations.
