JPD Captain Christy Stidger released details of the incidents, which including burglaries of Jose’s Mexican Restaurant, and Thomi’s Café & Bakery in the 600 block of Highway 49 in Jackson, and on five vehicles parked at 401 Clinton Road, leading to theft of a vehicle.

Sometime in the early morning hours Monday, Thomi’s Café Banquet Room and Jose’s Restaurant Office building were broken into. Stidger said the suspect or suspects broke out a small window to the front door of Thomi’s Banquet Room, allowing access to the door lock. Once inside the location, the room was ransacked, however, nothing was taken. The supect, or suspects “then threw a chair through the front window, most likely out of frustration as no money or real items of value are kept inside the banquet room.”

Stidger said the suspect or suspects “continued the crime spree by moving on to Jose’s Restaurant Office building. Again a window was broken out to gain access into the building. The office was ransacked and two boxes of wine were taken. ¶ “A cell phone belonging to the business owner was located in front of the location smashed on the ground,” Stidger said. “One of the stolen boxes of wine was later located around the outside corner of the building.

“The suspect or suspects left behind a blood trail at both locations,” Stidger said. “During the same time frame, four vehicles located in the parking lot of 401 Clinton Road (in Jackson) had been broken into, in an attempt to steal them.

“After attempts to steal the four vehicles failed, a fifth attempt to steal a 1985 Nissan pickup truck from the same location was successful,” she said. At about 6:50 p.m. Monday, an off duty Amador County Sheriff’s Sergeant, observed a suspicious vehicle and person, while in Mokelumne Hill.

Stidger said the “sergeant detained the driver of the vehicle and learned the vehicle was the stolen 1985 Nissan pickup. Calaveras California Highway Patrol was notified and the driver of the vehicle, Dustin Keuter, age 23, was arrested and transported to Calaveras County Jail for booking.

Stidger said Jackson Police Department is investigating further to see if the break-ins, attempted stolen vehicles and the stolen vehicle were all connected and if they were perpetrated by Keuter.
