Amador County Undersheriff Jim Wegner released details of the incident last week, in which at about 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4, “Amador County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 17000 block of Butte Mountain Road for a report of a safe that was found near a fence line in an open field.”

Wegner said the “blue FireFyter brand safe contained a small brown wooden box containing small trinkets, and two black and white photographs. The photographs appear to be World War II era photographs.” The trinkets, in a photo released by the ACSO, show a couple of pins that say CFC Fair Share, and one with Olympic rings, an old coin and a padlock.

ACSO Detectives “have reviewed theft and burglary reports received at the Amador County Sheriff’s Office but located no reports involving this safe,” Wegner said. “Detectives have also contacted the local Police Departments and contiguous county Sheriff’s Offices to determine if the safe was stolen in one of those jurisdictions. To date, no victim has been identified.”

The Amador Sheriff’s Office was hopeful that by releasing images of the photographs, and the items in the box, that “a citizen may recognize the photographs and be able to identify the owners. This may allow Detectives to determine if the safe was in fact stolen and from where, as well as return the recovered property to the rightful owners.”

Anyone with information regarding this safe or the associated photographs is asked to contact the Amador County Sheriff’s Office at (209) 223-6500.
