But as fall colors come to the western portion of the county, the eastern end is looking more like winter. Also this week, Kirkwood Mountain Resort announced that it will be opening Friday, Nov. 25 for skiing and boarding over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Also Tuesday, Nov 22, the Amador County Board of Supervisors approved a $20,000 budget request for the Amador County Chamber of Commerce, using contingency funding. Chamber President Mark Borchin, who said he took over the chamber last September and “we’ve had to sharpen our pencil.” He said they support Maurine Funk and the Amador Council of Tourism, and want to do so finanically. Supervisors urged them to work together.

Borchin said the Chamber’s move to downtown Jackson Main Street has been a good decision and increased foot traffic. Funk later Tuesday said her new office space located at the new Amador Transit Center in Sutter Creek was working out well. She said it has a great view, and it is regularly staffed as the Amador County Visitors Center.

Amador County Transportation Commission last week discussed the issue, and Commissioner Richard Forster said The Amador Transit Director was considering a month-to-month lease for ACT. He said it must be discussed further with the director. Supervisor Chairman Jon Plasse said part of the benefit of the agreement with ACT is having the Visitor Center staffed.

Also in Martell, Amador Catholic Center on Tuesday was dismantling the front façade of the center, as it has started its facility remodel. The exterior will get landscaping, and a stone wall and cross. The interior will include a new worship space for 700 people, and the church will be getting a new parish patron saint from the Sacramento Diocese.

Formal services will commence at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30. A video presentation of the new patron Saint will be shown at 6:30 p.m. with a festive reception of light refreshments to follow. The public is invited to attend. For information or directions, call (209) 223-2970.
