The west end of the road, near Sly Park Reservoir, will remain open to passenger vehicles as far as Silver Fork Road or to the point where snow covers the road, whichever comes first. Vehicles will not be able to drive through to Highway 88. Off-highway vehicles, including four wheel drive vehicles, will be allowed on the snow covered portion of the road up to the Silver Fork Road. Eldorado National Forest Supervisor Kathy Hardy said: “Mormon Emigrant Trail is not maintained or plowed in the winter. The east end of the road near Highway 88 becomes dangerous to drive on when it ices up and accumulates snow. It’s that time of the year when the state highways become the best options for winter travel.”
