Amador County – The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that the Pacific District has a new U.S. Forest Service ranger. USDA’s Frank Mosbacher announced the new appointment, saying the new Pacific District Ranger is Richard Thornburgh, and he will report to work in January.
Thorburgh was selected to direct the day-to-day operations on the Pacific Ranger District, headquartered in Fresh Pond, three miles east of Pollock Pines. Thornburgh’s new district includes the Crystal Basin, a portion of Desolation Wilderness, and part of the Rubicon Trail.
Thornburgh comes to the El Dorado National Forest from the San Bernardino National Forest where he has worked for the past five years.
El Dorado National Forest Supervisor Kathy Hardy said she is very happy to have Thornburgh as part of her staff. Hardy said: “He comes from a very busy urban national forest where he is highly regarded. He should feel right at home on the El Dorado.”
His experience includes time as a forest planner and coordinator for activities affected by the National Environmental Policy Act, as a Deputy District Ranger and as a budget analyst. His wife Catherine and two children will be joining him at the end of the school year.
