Amador County – The Ione Police Department arrested a man early last Friday on charges of assault with a deadly weapon after an altercation involving a tire iron.
Ione Police Chief Michael L. Johnson released details of the incident Monday, saying “23-year-old Joseph Cronin of Ione was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and booked into Amador County Jail. The other two involved males were treated for minor injuries and released at the scene.”
Johnson said the “female that reported the incident, 36-year-old Lenaya Jones of Ione, displayed objective signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance,” and “was arrested and also booked into Amador County Jail.”
At about 3:45 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, Lenaya Jones went to the Ione Police Department “to report an assault in progress at a nearby apartment building.” Johnson said the “woman reported that her friend was being assaulted by two males.”
The “Ione graveyard officer responded to the 100 block of South Church Street to investigate, with the assistance of officers from allied agencies,” Johnson said. “Officers determined that three adult males were involved in an altercation involving an assault with a tire iron.”
