Amador County – On Monday, Jackson City Council accepted the resignation of John Gonsalves from the Kennedy Mine Foundation Board of Directors, and appointed Councilman Keith Sweet to represent the city on the board.
City Manager Mike Daly said the City Council accepted Gonsalves’ resignation, and presented him with a certificate of appreciation for his two years serving on the board, and also serving as the Kennedy Mine Foundation treasurer.
Sweet was appointed to board to replace Gonsalves. Daly said in the past, Sweet had been serving as the Jackson City Council liaison to the Kennedy Mine Foundation, before the council had a formal representative seat on the board of directors.
Daly in a report to the Council said the “bylaws of the Kennedy Mine Foundation designate one of their Board of Director seats as a representative appointed by the city of Jackson. John Gonsalves has held this seat for two years for the city and although his service will be greatly missed, he has decided to resign from this position due to other time commitments.”
Gonsalves in a Jan. 4 letter of resignation to Daly, Supervisor John Plasse and Carolyn Fregulia, thanked them for the “opportunity to contribute.”
In the letter, he said “these past 12 months as project and operations manager of the Amador Catholic Center (newly named Saint Katharine Drexel Parish) have been very exciting, challenging, rewarding and certainly have consumed a great deal of my time.”
Gonsalves said “after struggling the last several months to meet other commitments, and searching for a way to fulfill my other volunteer obligations, I have come to the realization I have to let some things go so I can focus my attentions where I feel I can do the most good for our community.”
He said the “Kennedy Mine Foundation is an important institution and deserves to have dedicated individuals who can devote the necessary time to achieve the goals of the Foundation to preserve this historic assets.”
He said the letter should serve as his formal resignation, and said “it has been an honor and a pleasure to serve the city and the foundation.”
