slide4-daffodil_hill_opens_for_2012_season.pngAmador County – McLaughlin’s Daffodil Hill opened last week for the 2012 season, and its 72nd season.

Michael Ryan and the Ryan families announced the opening saying rain and snow are gone and the sunshine is bringing out flowers. Daffodil Hill is open seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting. Ryan said they expect the flowers to last for at least another week (or more), as long as Mother Nature cooperates.”

Daffodil Hill Ranch is 540 acres and has six acres dedicated to the daffodils, with as many as 300 varieties and half a million annual blooms, if the weather cooperates. ¶ The family-operated and family-funded Daffodil Hill is free and open to the public, although any donations will be gratefully accepted. Any donations help fund new bulb plantations for the following year.

The family requests that all visitors stay on the paths at all times and do not enter the planting areas or pick the blooms. In an effort to preserve the tranquility of Daffodil Hill, no pets are allowed on the main grounds. However, visitors are welcome to walk their pets across the road in the parking lot area.

McLaughlin’s Daffodil Hill can be reached from either Sutter Creek or Jackson. Each trip is about 12 miles. Sutter Creek and Jackson are located on Highway 49 in Amador County, accessible from Sacramento via Highway 16 (Jackson Road) or from Stockton via Highway 99 (Highway 88 East turnoff).

From Sutter Creek, turn East on Gopher Flat Road then left on Shake Ridge Road. Follow the signs to Daffodil Hill. From Jackson, turn East on Highway 88 for eight miles to Pine Grove. Turn North on Pine Grove-Volcano Road. Follow Pine Grove-Volcano Road until it turns into Rams Horn Grade. Follow Rams Horn Grade to Daffodil Hill.

Visitors should call the Daffodil Hill information line before they visit to make sure it is open. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week, weather permitting.

As always, the Ryans encourage visitors to call The Hill’s recorded phone message at (209) 296-7048 for weather updates. For other information, call the Amador County Chamber of Commerce at 1(800) 649-4988. Daffodil Hill is located at 18310 Rams Horn Grade in Volcano.
