Amador County – Amador County Department of Waste Management has opened the nomination period for this year’s Recycler Ricky Award program, to award a local youth and a local individual, organization, business or entity for excellence in recycling.
Jim McHargue, director of the Amador County Waste Management Department said the Amador County Local Task Force on Integrated Waste Management is now accepting nominations for the 2012 Recycler Ricky Award.
McHargue said the Recycler Ricky Award began as contest to design, draw and name a new Amador County recycling mascot. The winning entry, Recycler Ricky, was submitted by a local student in 2004. Every year the Task Force honors a county individual or entity that represents Ricky’s positive message, that is, to “Be a Hero and Recycle.”
The Task Force is soliciting nominations for two award categories. One is the Youth Award, which goes to any Amador County kindergarten through 12th grade school-aged recycler that exemplifies the qualities of Recycler Ricky. The second category is the General Award, going to any Amador County individual, business, organization or entity that exhibits excellence in recycling.
Nominations should be a brief typewritten or handwritten description on one page explaining the specific recycling-related actions that warrant consideration for the award. Please include the name, age and school of the student and a contact telephone number or email for parent or guardian.
Nominations will be accepted until April 30 and can be sent to the Local Task Force, in care of the Amador County Waste Management Department, 810 Court Street, Jackson, CA 95642, or by e-mail or fax.
The recyclers selected for the 2012 Recycler Ricky Award will be recognized publicly with a special gift and personalized framed certificate. For questions or more information, please contact McHargue at (209) 223-6429.
