On April 26th, Ione will celebrate the 4th Annual Walk for the Troops in honor of veterans, those currently serving and fallen service men and women. This is a day of celebration of our freedom and those who have made it possible. The community is invited to participate starting with a full military ceremony at the Ione Veterans Memorial Park located at the corner of Preston and Main Street in downtown Ione.
The program will begin at 11:00 AM with full military honors, followed by a walk to the Preston Castle for catered lunch and live music by the band “30 Years After. The walk to Preston Castle symbolizes our respect and gratitude to those who preserve our freedom. Parking is available at Preston Castle for those who choose to drive to the event.
Lunch will be served at 1:00 PM. The event will include a door prize and raffle. Lunch tickets are $12 each in advance, and can be purchased at Robyn’s Nest or American River Bank in Ione. Tickets purchased at the door will be $15 each.
The Ione Veterans Memorial Park was conceived, built and is maintained by volunteers and the generous donations from the greater Ione community. The Ione Veterans Wall is in honor of Veterans in the 95640 zip code. There is also a large wall plaque honoring those who are currently serving. There is no charge for any veteran or current member of the armed services to have their named placed in the park. Applications are available at City Hall or American River Bank.
