First, this is NAMI Amador’s third year participating in the Northern CA NAMI Walk, and we have always been in the top ten teams in fundraising! It’s Saturday, May 3, 9AM - Noon, William Land Park, Sacramento, corner of Freeport Drive & Sutterville Rd.
Second, we want you to know about our amazing little team from Amador this year - we are out in front in donations with more $$ raised than any other team among the other 6 counties participating - Sacramento, Yolo, Placer, El Dorado, Stanislaus, and San Joaquin! There are about 100 teams registered so far and we hope to maintain our lead - we’ve raised $6000, with a goal of $7500.
Third, there are no fees to join the Walk, Amador receives 60% of everything we raise to use for our free services to the public, especially to people living with mental illness and their families, friends and other loved ones.
Fourth, the Walk is an inspiring event, with 2000 people participating, Darrell Steinberg speaking, music, food trucks, entertainment, dogs, lots of kids, banners, inspirations, silly costumes, great-t-shirts (you should see ours - and you can get one!) moving moments, stigma-busting and more inspiration! This is our support and advocacy message, as this Walk is about showing our strength, not just about fund-raising!
Fifth, we really need more of our members, friends, supporters to join up with our team - last year there were 27 of us - not all walking, but we were there! Our team has a big party at end of the walk - food and drawing for lots of great gifts, and this year there is even a weekend at Harrah’s Tahoe!
