(Sutter Creek) Jacob Bailey, 17, of Sutter Creek, chose painting fire hydrants for his Eagle Scout Service Project. Bailey, a junior at Amador High School, organized and led a crew of twelve volunteers recruited from Boy Scout Troop 63 in painting 107 Amador Water Agency fire hydrants in the Martell area. Cleaning and painting the hydrants in roadways, high traffic areas and neighboring fields took 139 hours during the group’s school holiday break in December and January.
Jacob and his parents, John and Kim Bailey, attended the presentation on Thursday of a formal resolution by AWA Board of Directors, recognizing and thanking Jacob for his work. Painting the hydrants with high visibility paint is an important community safety project, helping firefighters spot the hydrants quickly in an emergency.
In accepting the AWA Board’s resolution, Bailey offered his own thanks to AWA Administrative Assistant Andrea Hinton for her support of his service project, a requirement for joining the prestigious Eagle Scout Court of Honor. Bailey expects to complete the last few requirements he needs to attain the highest Boy Scout rank by summer 2014.
