(Jackson) Three Amador Water Agency Directors yesterday were appointed to their current seats on the AWA Board by the Amador County Supervisors.
Directors Paul Molinelli, Sr., Robert Manassero and Art Toy were up for re-election this year and would have appeared on Tuesday’s ballot but all three remained unopposed after the nominations deadline passed.
Amador County Supervisors issued a Certificate of Appointment to all three in lieu of appearing on the November 4 ballot, saving the Water Agency thousands of dollars in elections fees.
The Supervisors unanimously approved the appointments at their regular Board meeting Tuesday, and complimented the AWA directors on their dedication to the Agency and Amador County citizens.
"Four years ago, these three citizens agreed to wade into a situation at the Water Agency that was pretty dire," said District 1 Supervisor John Plasse, speaking of financial challenges faced by AWA during the recession.
"They recognized that business experience and leadership were needed, and they were willing to serve for the good of the community. They've done an impressive job, and we appreciate it," Plasse said.
ACES Waste Services owner and District 1 Director, Molinelli represents the City of Jackson and surrounding area on the Board. District 4 Director Manassero, owner of Manassero Insurance, represents Sutter Creek and western Pine Grove. Toy, a Shenandoah Valley grape grower, holds the Plymouth/Fiddletown and Sunset Heights area’s District 5 seat.
All three Directors were first elected in 2010 and will serve until 2018 with Directors Rich Farrington and Gary Thomas (representing the Upcountry and Ione/Camanche areas, respectively) whose terms expire in 2016.
Molinelli, Manassero and Toy and will be sworn into office at the regular AWA Board meeting on Dec. 11.
