New scientific research has shown that exposure to violence has a measurable physiological impact on a child’s developing brain. Guest speaker Betty White from the Department of Justice will familiarize attendees with the Attorney General’s Safe from the Start Initiative. Betty White is Program Manager for Children Exposed to Violence with the Crime and Violence Prevention Center, State of California, Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General. She will provide background information about the brains structure and function, and the framework for understanding the impact that repeated exposure to domestic violence may have on the developing child. Attendees will get basic information and guidelines enabling them to better understand an infant, toddler or child’s reaction to trauma, and to assist them in their daily work with traumatized children. Everyone is invited to attend, however they ask that you call Tina at 223-2897 for reservations. The workshop will be held Tuesday October 17th from 9-11am at Conference room A in the GSA Building on Airport Road.
