Thick black smoke could be seen for miles away from the scene as the historic building, currently under renovation, burned. Firefighters on scene reported flames coming from the gables of the building. Firefighters conducted both interior and exterior operations attacking the fire in a two pronged attack. The owner’s, who are out of town on an extended trip to Europe, had several animals that were rescued by firefighters from their kennels. Hwy 88 was re-opened to one way traffic control about 9 am. Assistant Chief Dale Fishback offered what he calls a preliminary description of fire. Crews from the Pine Grove Camp, Jackson Fire and CDF remained on scene for clean up through out the afternoon.
