Jackson – The Amador Fire Protection Authority (AFPA) will meet today to discuss the distribution of funds allocated through the Measure M sales tax measure. The Measure M ½ cent sales tax increase was part of the November 4, 2008 ballot and was passed by voters with 69 percent approval. It is intended to support the first publicly funded fire program in Amador County. County officials say the money raised is distributed to each of the six volunteer fire departments on an ongoing basis. Measure M includes very specific requirements for how the money can be spent and used. Some residents have raised questions about the progress of that funding distribution and the effectiveness of the measure so far. The seven-member AFPA board, which includes Supervisor Louis Boitano, Jackson Mayor Connie Gonslaves, and Ione Mayor Lee Ard, will discuss and possibly take action on the distribution of funds so far and in the future. Also on the AFPA agenda is a discussion and possible action relative to an update on the Sutter Creek, Jackson, AFPD and Lockwood Cooperation, possible action relative to the identification of an Executive Officer for the AFPA, and continued discussion of the Joint Powers Agreement forming the AFPA.
