This afternoon young trick or treaters will take to the streets and one final reminder to local drivers: be on the look out for children. If you are looking for an activity for your child that does not involve door to door trick or treating both the Jackson Lions Club and several local churches are offering options. Main Street Jackson will sponsor trick or treating in the downtown businesses this afternoon followed by the Lions Club Halloween Parade. Gather at the Jackson Fire House at 5:30 pm. Also, The annual Brown Academy Halloween Haunted House will be open tonight from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 851 Palm Drive, Ione. Calvary Chapel Church on Ridge Rd in Pine Grove will be hosting Trunk or Treat tonight beginning at 5:30pm

On this past Saturday, November 11th at approx. 12:16 pm there was quite a commotion in Plymouth

The Plymouth City Council last week heard the first reading of a new broadcasting ordinance. This ordinance has to do with the amount of noise “broadcasted” specifically, from a vehicles stereo system. This ordinance is being sought as a preemptive measure by the city to help control gangs any growth of gangs in the area. The ordinance would restrict drivers from playing music loud enough to be heard  25 feet away a vehicle. The California Department of Motor Vehicles currently has a vehicle code that requires a 50 foot buffer zone for cars in the state of California. 

The Amador Unit of California Highway Patrol has a new weapon in their fight to save your life from becoming a victim of your own speed or someone else’s. And that made yesterday a bad day to speed on Hwy 88 just west of Jackson on the stretch of roadway known as “Hurricane Hill”. Hurricane Hill has been the site of several fatal accidents in recent years- according to Amador Unit Public Information Officer Craig Harmon-. Harmon states that Hurricane Hill is especially dangerous in weather like we experienced yesterday-wet. This made the stretch of roadway a natural location for  Amador Unit Officers to debut the Lidar-  a new technology that uses a laser beam instead of radar to clock the speed of motorists.

The weather, and speed combined with inattention to the roadway contributed to several accidents that occurred over the weekend. According to Officer Michael LeMaster’s report 25 year old Rebecca Carroll of Pioneer was driving west bound on Ridge Road at 6:40am at 55 miles per hour when she looked down at her passenger seat and allowed her 2001 Chevy to drift off the right shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle impacted a directional sign and fence. Carroll was not injured in the accident. That afternoon at 2:45 another accident occurred on Latrobe Road north of Lorentz Road. 

The Amador-El Dorado Unit (AEU) of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF) is announcing the end of the burn suspension today, November 3, 2006, for Amador and El Dorado Counties.

What is an IRWMP? Well, a meeting was held last night to answer that exact question. IRWMP is actually an acronym for Integrated Regional Water Management Plan. AWA staff has participated in the creation of the Mokelumne/Amador/Calaveras (M/A/C) Integrated Regional Water Management Plan as part of the Proposition 50 Chapter 8 program. The IRWMP grant program is a joint program between the Department of Water Resources (DWR) and the State Water Resources Control Board. 

Justice has taken its course in the death of beloved school teacher Suzette Arnese Cone. Arnese-Cone was killed in a motor vehicle accident on Wednesday, April 28, 2004 on Highway 88 east of Irishtown Road. Arnese-Cone was a popular Jackson junior High Teacher. The accident was caused when Kerry Cook of Pioneer, then 39 years old, struck Mrs. Arnese- Cone’s vehicle. Arnese-Cone died at the scene and Kerry Cook was flown via air ambulance to the Davis hospital for a fractured leg. Her 5-year-old female passenger was flown to the hospital as well for lacerations to the forehead, chin and nose and for stomach pain.

The Jackson City Council discussed a Monument to be placed at the site of the Former Chinese Cemetery this week.
