CHP Reports On Weekend Accidents

December began with a rocky start on our roadways as 3 accidents occurred on Friday alone.

slide10The first accident occurred on Hwy. 88 east of lower Jackson Valley Road at 9:50 am. James Cranford of Castro Valley was driving his 2006 Ford westbound on Hwy. 88 at about 55 mph. Dale Bozarth, of Placerville was driving eastbound on Hwy. 88 at about 40 mph. Officer Mike LeMaster’s report states that Cranford had been up for about 22 hours. Cranford entered a gradual left curve and was hugging the center line. He proceeded to allow his vehicle to cross over the double yellow lines and into the eastbound lane. The left front of Cranford’s Ford impacted the left front of Bozarth’s 1983 Kenworth causing the left front wheel of the Ford to rip off the axle. The vehicle continued on for another approximately .3 miles where Cranford pulled the Ford onto the shoulder and stopped, as did Bozarth. Fortunately, both men were uninjured in the accident.

Approximately 3:05pm an accident occurred on Buckhorn Ridge Road north of Hwy. 88. Vicky Herring of West Point was driving south bound on Buckhorn Ridge Rd around a curve in the roadway. According to Officer Melissa Scobee’s report Herring was driving while under the influence of a combination of alcohol and a controlled substance. The report states that due to Herring’s intoxication she failed to negotiate the curve in the roadway and allowed her vehicle to travel across the double yellow lines and into the north bound lane. The front end of Herring’s 1997 Subaru Legacy impacted the left rear of Pioneer resident Charles York 2004 Hyundai Sonata. Herring was arrested for driving while under the influence.

slide12At 9pm Friday evening an accident occurred on New York Ranch Road South of Bingo Way. Konmeg Moua of Lathrop was driving his 1981 VW Rabbit on New York Ranch Road at a stated speed of 40-45 miles per hour. Konmeg entered a sharp curve in the road way at an unsafe speed for the roadway conditions, according to Officer Melissa Scobee’s report. The vehicle traveled off of the west roadway edge into an embankment. The vehicle then proceeded to slide across the roadway off the east roadway edge and finally stopped after hitting a fence. The vehicle sustained moderate damage to the left front bumper and fender and right rear quarter panel and bumper damage. Konmeg walked away from the accident uninjured.

On Saturday December 2nd an accident occurred on Hwy. 88 east of Peddler Hill.  Jacob Steep of Dayton Nevada was driving east bound on Hwy. 88 at a stated speed of 60mph. According to Officer Scobee’s report, Steep observed a large clump of snow ahead of him in the east bound lane and didn’t think much of it. He continued to travel through the clump of snow. This caused his 2006 Doge Caravan to slide in a north westerly direction off of the north roadway edge into a snow bank. According to the CHP report, Steep was uninjured in the accident.
