Inattention to the roadway was the cause of an accident that occurred on Sunday. 23 year old Walter Mills of San Jose was westbound on Hwy. 88 at 50-55 mph in his 2000 Ford. According to Officer Hagemann’s report, Mills looked down to write something in a notebook when he felt his vehicle drift towards the right. Mills looked up and overcorrected when he turned towards the left causing the vehicle to swerve and shrike an embankment and subsequently overturn.
An accident that occurred on Jackson Valley Road on Sunday night sent 2 to the hospital. According to Officer Melissa Scobee’s report, Utilia Hurtado of Ione was stopped at the stop sign northbound on upper Jackson Valley Road at Hwy. 88. Luis Zaragoza of Stockton was driving west bound on Hwy. 88 at approximately 55 mph. Hurtado failed to yield to the right of way of oncoming traffic and pulled out directly in front of Zaragoza’s 1993 Dodge Intrepid. The right front of Hurtado’s 1999 Buick struck the left passenger side door. Zaragoza and his passenger Maria Chavez of Stockton, both suffered moderate injuries and were transported to UC Davis Medical Center.
