Chamber of Commerce Has Open Seat After Bamert Resignation
A seat has opened on the
Amador County Chamber of Commerce of after the resignation of former Supervisor
and rancher Tom Bamert. Bamert’s letter of resignation is dated April 16th
and addressed to the President of the Chamber Jack Mitchell. According to
Bamert his decision to
resign is based on the fact that the Chamber has reserved a place on a
committee for the Buena Vista Band of Me-Wuk Indians. The committee in
question is the Tourism Committee which is one of three committees that are
structured by the Chamber. Bamert states that he quote “could not believe my eyes when I looked at the
Committee Listings for the Chamber and saw that the “Buena Vista Rancheria” was
included on the Tourism Committee.”
Bamert then questioned the Chamber’s Director Jacqueline
Lucedo about the issue and according to Bamert he was told that it wasn’t a
misprint and that there was not a name of a person representing the “Rancheria”
on the list (of committee members) because they (the Rancheria) are not
formally recognized as a casino at this time but when they are, the Chamber
would like them on the Committee. Bamert states that he “does not wish to be
associated with an organization that supports another casino in our county”.
According to Chamber President Jack Mitchell the Buena Vista tribe is a dues paying member of the Chamber
and has a right to serve on committees. Mitchell states that is the Chamber’s
job to serve the local business community not to prevent their participation in
the Chamber. “The Chamber promotes business in the community” states
Mitchell. “Its not our place to pick which businesses those are.”
