The Amador STARS, 11the Annual Amador Camp Out for Cancer raised over $65,000 (and still counting) this weekend at the Amador County Fairgrounds.

28 teams of families and friends gathered to support their friends on the Cancer Journey, to celebrate Life, and to raise funds!
A free live music festival took place on the Amador County Fairgrounds with local musicians: Herb Boxhorn, Wicked Sisters, Bruce Dixon, Mike Rolf and Electra Road donated their talents as well as Pete Bell who is the Sound Guy.

Co Chairs, Donna Jackson, Ginger Rolf
Sub Chairs: Nancy Swensen, Joanne Hazen and Tammy Accinelli celebrated a very successful weekend.

Amador STARS is a non profit organization in Amador County which offers Support, Transportation and Resource Services to the community. All proceeds raised at the event remain local, except for 8 per cent which goes to Cancer Research.

This year a check for $6,000 from last years Camp Out for Cancer was presented to Amador Cancer Research Foundation, and Cathy Landgraf accepted the check for her non profit. The funds will go to the UC Davis Cancer Research program. The research foundation was founded in memory of Cathy's sister Christine.

This years Camp Out for Cancer was dedicated to Virginia Marney. Virginia lost her long battle with cancer in March of this year. She was passionate about the event, as well as dedicating her time to raising funds for the Amador STARS. Virginia's Camp Out for Cancer team raised over $50,000 in just 11 years. Her passion to continue dedicating funds to cancer research seems to keep her memory alive with her Camp Out for Cancer family. She was missed at the event this year, but her spirit was certainly with us!

The candle light ceremony at night lit the way for the night time walkers with luminaries dedicated to those touched by cancer.

The Amador STARS has 6 vans which transport patients to their chemotherapy and radiation appointments for treatment. We are a volunteer run organization with over 30 volunteer drivers. It is through the generosity of this community, that the Amador STARS can continue to serve our friends and neighbors on their cancer journey.

Together, WE DO make a difference in the life of a cancer patient! Thank you so much for all who participated and it is not to late to donate to the cause… Just call Amador STARS at 209-223-1246.

Fundraiser for Operation Care

During the month of July fire fighters at Pine Grove Youth Conservation Camp participated in a Fundraising event led by YCC Deborah Brady. They were able to raise $920.00 to donate to Operation Care.

On August 25th we presented them with the check. They were very grateful, and stated that our donation would help to provide families with a safe harbor and keep them out of harm’s way. It will also assist them in being able to keep their crisis hotline available 24 hours a day seven days a week. This made the guys feel good about themselves for helping out the local community.

Operation Care is a Non-Profit Organization that specializes in the following services: Domestic Violence Support Services and Advocacy, Rape Counseling, Support Services and Advocacy, Amador County Safe House for Battered Women and Children, Safe Harbor for Battered Men and a 24-hour Crisis Line.
