(Sutter Creek) The upcountry water system was hit hard by last week’s lightning storms. This new damage comes after July’s electrical storm that destroyed computer controls throughout the upcountry water system, causing at least $50,00.00 in equipment damage and staff overtime cost. Amador Water Agency General Manager Gene Mancebo says “last week’s storms severely damaged the computerized control system for the CAWP (Central Amador Water Project) raw water pumps. The two pump stations at Tiger Creek and Silver Lake Pines lift water from the Mokelumne River to the Buckhorn Water Treatment plant that provides drinking water to upcountry homes. Staff is currently operating the pumps manually which requires around-the-clock attention.
