Four American Red Cross Disaster Volunteers from Amador County were among the 12 volunteers deployed Saturday to White Plains, New York Says Chief Sherman Reinius, of the Amador County Emergency Services, American Red Cross, The Volunteers are there to aid in the preparations, for Hurricane Sandy. The Amador County volunteers are Paul Keeton, Frank and Janet Picolla and Frank Remick. These four are part of a rapid deployment team specially trained to open shelters anywhere in the United States when a disaster strikes. Five U.S. Forest Service hotshot crews were on their way to the northeast Wednesday afternoon, yesterday. Reports the US Forest Service.  The crews will be joining an agency contingent that is already several hundred strong that was mobilized in the days prior to the incident and since the storm came ashore Monday evening. The one-hundred firefighters departed southern California and are due to arrive at approximately 3:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.  Interagency Hotshot Crews or IHCs are highly trained 20-person, wildland fire and all-risk crews. They are considered a national firefighting resource. The Hurricane Sandy response is a national priority incident. The duration of the assignment is likely to be between 14 days and a month.
