Amador Water Agency customers who formerly received utility bills every other month will now get a monthly bill, permanently.  After a three-month monthly-billing trial showed a dramatic 60 percent reduction in overdue payments and a sharp reduction in delinquent notices and shut-offs, AWA Directors approved making monthly billing permanent for customers in the Camanche and upcountry areas. Monthly meter-reading benefited water customers by reducing the size of their utility bills, making it easier for them to make timely payments. In addition, during the trial period meter readers were able to notify over 30 customers of leaks or unusually high water use and make corrections earlier, saving customers from unnecessarily high water bills. "Even though meter-reading takes place more often than when we billed every other month, we've been able to do this without adding any staff by shifting some job responsibilities in-house," said Office Manager Karen Gish. "A thirty-nine percent reduction in late notices and time spent on shut-offs and turn-ons, also has resulted in significant savings of staff time."Story from press release, edited by Tom Slivick, This email address is being protected from spambots. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), has finalized its final designation of critical habitat for the Northern Spotted Owl.  The final designation reduces the amount of critical habitat in California, Oregon and Washington that was proposed last February by 4.2 million acres.  All private lands and the majority of state lands previously identified have been excluded from the final rule. In the final rule the USFWS has identified 9.29 million acres of critical habitat on federal land and 291,570 acres on state land.  The designation of critical habitat on state land is primarily in Oregon.  A critical habitat designation affects federal actions and does not provide additional protection on non-federal lands unless proposed activities involve federal funding or permitting. for more information contact RCRC Kathy Mannion at This email address is being protected from spambots.
