Local Fires Keep Crews Hopping Yesterday
Local fire crews were hopping yesterday with a
reported 4 fires throughout the county. The first to be reported was a fire at 4600 Jackson Valley Road yesterday
morning. The fire, while first reported at 3 acres, spread to 11 acres
in size. The fire did not threaten any structures.
5 engines and one dozer all responded to the
scene and crews are still on scene conducting mop up into the evening hours. A
second a fire reported
at 3:35pm on Cedar Heights Drive
was caused when a car crashed into a power pole. The pole toppled over and
power lines ignited dry brush nearby. Crews
were able to get the spot fire out quickly but power lines remained charged
till 4:15pm. At 4:38pm a vegetation fire was reported at Boot Strap Road across from Fiddletown Road. Crews reacted quickly and
called in air response to the fire, which was reported at less than acre in
size, at about 5pm. Crews remained on scene into the evening containing
the fire. Finally at around 5:04
pm a new fire was discovered on the Hwy 49 bypass near Tonzi Road. Fire crews were split now at
opposite ends of the County and a helicopter, CalFire Copter 404 based out of Columbia, responding to the Fiddletown fire
was redirected to Tonzi. Law enforcement reported that the Tonzi fire was
spreading quickly. Traffic
was rerouted through on old Hwy. 49. After a air support was called in the fire
was contained at about 5 acres by 6pm
