31 year old Donut store manager and Sonora resident Virak Raingsan is facing two felony counts in Calaveras County Superior Court. Raingsan faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and a Labor Code violation that resulted in the death or impairment of an employee, both felonies. According to the Union Democrat he has pled not guilty and his next court appearance is scheduled Aug. 20th. In June 2005 the boy, a Sonora resident named Aaron James Van Winkle Jr., was driving eastbound on Highway 4 near Douglas Flat in a Toyota RAV4, delivering donuts for the Donut Factory in Sonora.  

The 15-year-old didn't have a driver’s license and attempted to pass a car over the highway's double-yellow lines. He collided head-on with a 2005 Dodge Magnum driven by Larry Cornish, an administrator for Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital in San Andreas. Cornish suffered a broken right foot and broken left collar bone, while Van Winkle was pronounced dead at the scene. The Labor Code violation which defendant Raingsan is charged with has to do with hiring someone who is too young, too inexperienced and doesn't have a driver's license. That act led to the manslaughter charge, which stems from doing something illegal that causes a death. Raingsan, also booked on two out-of-county charges of failing to appear in court on a felony, remains in Calaveras County Jail. He is held on $105,500 bail.
