Fire in Shenandoah Valley
![slide13 slide13](/images/stories/October%2007/10-05/thumbnails/thumb_slide13.png)
It took about 30 minutes to control the fire and 4 agencies besides AFPD
responded, including CalFire, Sutter Creek Fire District, Pioneer Fire District
and
Ione Fire Department. The fire crews remained on the scene for several
hours overhauling the smoldering debris. It was not totally clear how the fire
started, but preliminary cause appears to be an improperly disposed cigarette.
The destroyed home was not the main residence at this address and the owners
were thankful that none of the occupants were harmed and were less worried about the building at
that point. And, in light of this event, Amador Fire Protection District,
Battalion 20 Fire Chief, Jim McCart, reminds viewers that this is a good time
to replace the batteries in your smoke detectors and to test them for
proper operation. Also, clean and inspect your chimney in preparation for the cold,
fall weather.
