Amador County – Ione Police Chief Michael L. Johnson said his officers worked a busy Labor Day weekend with six arrests in four days.
Just after midnight on Saturday, Sept. 3, Johnson said John Dalman, 47, of Ione was observed emerging from behind businesses at Ione Plaza. “Dalman attempted to walk away from the scene while carrying a flashlight and a box of items in his arms.”
An IPD officer “noted objective signs of intoxication,” Johnson said, and after several field sobriety assessments Dalman was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance, and was booked into Amador County Jail. IPD also made a misdemeandor arrest Saturday.
About 7 p.m. Sunday, Ione Police stopped a vehicle in the 400 block of Preston Avenue. Joseph Allison, 44, of Ione, a passenger, displayed signs of drug intoxication. Allison was removed from the vehicle for further investigation.
During the investigation Officers learned of controlled substances in the vehicle. The driver, Eric Ozburn, 45, of Ione, was also removed from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle yielded suspected methamphetamine. Ozburn was arrested for transportation and possession of controlled substances. Allison was also placed in custody for being under the influence of a controlled substance.
About 11 p.m. Monday, IPD responded to a trespasser report in the 800 block of Dove Lane. The Officer contacted Michele Mello, 51, of Galt, who was on active probation in Amador County. Mello appeared to be under the influence. Several drug related paraphernalia items were located about her personal property. Mello was arrested for probation violations. Johnson said “other drug related charges will likely follow.”
At 7:38 a.m. Tuesday, IPD responded to reports of a male subject causing a disturbance at Ione Junior High. Johnson said “children arriving to school were frightened by a male subject in a pick-up yelling at passersbys and acting aggressive. Upon arrival the Officer immediately identified 51-year-old Gregory Copp of Ione as the primary suspect.”
Johnson said Ione Police were “familiar with Copp as he was recently served with a court order restraining him from the school property. Copp was placed in custody without delay on the violation and transported to Amador County Jail.”
