Amador County – The Amador County Supervisors’ Land Use Committee and planning staff have scheduled two workshops to discuss county banner regulations and to get input from businesses on their specific advertising and marketing needs.
Officials invited “any and all interested people and businesses to attend and participate in these workshops.” Those unable to attend may submit written comments to the Planning Department.
A morning workshop is scheduled for 10-11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15. An evening workshop will be 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20. Both workshops will be held in the Board of Supervisors Chambers in the Amador County Administration Building at 810 Court Street in Jackson.
Planning staff said on Nov. 2, “the Land Use Committee held a public workshop on the current regulations pertaining to banners.” Representatives from about 15 businesses in the Martell area attended, providing their concerns on current banner regulations and input regarding their advertising needs.
Current code allows for one banner per business establishment; located outside of the building; not more than 25 square feet in area; in any Commercial or Manufacturing district; and not to be in place more than 90 days in any calendar year. Planning staff said “these banner regulations apply only to the unincorporated area of the County. They do not apply to businesses located within city limits as the cities have their own regulations for banners.”
On Nov. 22 planning staff brought to the Board of Supervisors a resolution of intention “to initiate the proceedings to consider amending” county code regarding Banners. “Supervisors approved the Resolution of Intention and directed staff to hold two public workshops to gain more information from business owners on their specific marketing needs.”
Supervisor Richard Forster and Supervisor Vice Chairman Louis Boitano make up the Land Use Committee. At the Nov. 22 meeting, Forster said it was imperative to hold more public workshops because they were “just scratching the surface” at the last workshop.
Boitano suggested having one daytaime and one nighttime meeting. Supervisor Ted Novelli said “we need business input” because “we don’t need to be making their decisions.”
Forster suggested the meeting should share a list of previous comments that had already been made and discussed.
