On her website, Huber said: “I have decided not to run for reelection. I feel this is the best decision for my children, my health, and my current district.”

Huber, (D-El Dorado Hills) represents Amador County in District 10. Her home was moved by the Citizen Redistricting Commission to be in Assembly District 6 as of the June 2012 primary. In November Huber announced plans to move to Rancho Cordova to seek reelection in District 8, where 40 percent of her former constituents were relocated by redistricting.

Staying in District 6, Huber would have faced Republican Assemblywoman Beth Gaines in the new district where Republicans outnumber Democrats by 20 percent. Gaines in November said she will seek the District 6 seat. Gaines’ soon-to-be-former District 5 now includes Amador County.

In July, Huber spoke of a possible U.S. Congressional run against Dan Lungren, saying it was on her “radar.” But last week the Fresno Bee reported (Dec. 8) that Huber filed for divorce in May, after separating from her husband. The house they own in El Dorado Hills is in default. Huber and her two children live in a home the couple bought, and which she now solely owns, according to the Bee. Her husband reportedly stopped payments on the original family home when Huber moved out, and her name cannot be removed from the deed until they are divorced.

Amador County is part of the new “Mountain Counties” Assembly District 5, including most of El Dorado County, which was formerly part of Assembly District 4, represented by Gaines. Amador’s redrawn District 5 will also include all of Calaveras, Alpine, Tuolumne, Mariposa, Mono and Madera counties, now part of Assembly District 25, until June. District 25 is represented by Assemblywoman Kristin Olsen, (R-Modesto) in Stanislaus County, which was redistricted between Assembly Districts 12 and 21.

Unless a sitting Assembly member moves into District 5, Amador County will not have an incumbent Assembly member in the 2012 primary election.

Huber did not answer a request for comment on this story.
