Amador County – The city of Jackson, Amador County Chamber of Commerce and the Jackson Business and Community Association are hosting a free ADA compliance workshop 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Jackson Civic Center.
JBCA members said most people have heard the troubling stories of a local business that has been sued by a litigious attorney over compliance deficiencies in new Americans with Disabilities Act law. The informative evening will give local business owners and merchants the information they need so that they can conform to the laws.
The ADA Compliance Workshop For Local Businesses is free and will be hosted by Patrick Van Lieshout, a certified, state-licensed access specialist, with the Central Sierra Accessibility Consultants of Valley Springs.
This workshop is an opportunity to learn what your business needs to do to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and protect itself from expensive litigation that can result from non-compliance.
Van Lieshout is a Certified Access Specialist Inspector and will give practical information about ADA compliance requirements. Learn what you should know about accessible parking and its signs, site signage, entrance doors, exit signage, thresholds, transaction counters, accessible seating and restrooms.
The Chamber’s Dianne Sherbourne said “we understand that this situation is confusing and can be very stressful. In an effort to assist local businesses, we have printed material from our Town Hall meeting in 2011 with basic information regarding recommended steps to take to help you address questions or issues you may have.” People may stop by the Chamber office at 115 Main Street in Jackson to pick up a set.
No reservations are required for the free workshop, set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 28 in the Jackson Civic Center, 33 Broadway in Jackson.
