Primary Election Ballots Must Be Reprinted

Johnson, Amador County Registrar of Voters, announced today that he received notice from the office of the Secretary of State that Amador County is one of six counties that had ballots delivered that do not have sufficient water marks and tinting. Official ballots for distribution to the precincts are being reprinted by the counties elections software contractor and all costs associated with this process will be borne by the vendors.

Delivery of the new ballots will be in time to meet the Election Department deadlines for issuing ballots to the precinct workers for Election Day. Johnson said the water marks and tinting will not affect the counting of the ballots; therefore, the printing problem will not affect the vote-by-mail ballots already mailed out. The vote by mail process includes several security measures including a complete audit trail of the number of ballots issued, received, and cast. Johnson says all signatures are verified prior to ballots being accepted for counting.  As an additional security measure, the Election Management System used by the Election Department will not allow a voter to cast more than one ballot at any election.
