A Christmas To Remember- Today and Tomorrow
A Christmas tradition unique to Amador County is here once again. A “Christmas to Remember” started over 20 years ago with a small monetary donation from a local citizen will return this Wednesday and Thursday Dec 6&7th.
Local radio personality Jim Guidi will once again in be in the Costless Foods parking lot where he has stood, generally in shorts and a jacket, for many years, encouraging the community to once again be generous and help out kids. Jim is persuasive and last year the community supported the event to the tune of 78,000 dollars. Christmas to Remember is strictly a money raising effort; it is not a collection spot for used clothing or for toys. The funds raised are used to purchase new clothing for local children and youth who are identified through Amador and western Calaveras County schools. The children are then taken shopping at the Jackson K-Mart, assisted by local adult volunteers and high school peer counselors, where they receive essentials such as pants, coats, T-shirts, underwear and socks. Junior high and high school-age participants are given gift certificates to do their own shopping. Donations are gratefully accepted in cash or by check or credit form. Your dollar, given locally helps locally. And none of your donations to the program will be used to cover expenses, 100% is given the local children. The Christmas to Remember Fundraising begins tomorrow, Wednesday December 6th and continues through Thursday the 7th.
