CHP Reports On Weekend Accident Trend

Weekend AccidentsThis weekend’s accident reports began with a hit and run accident on Friday at approximately 4:04pm, involving a 2005 BMW Motorcycle. According to Investigating Officer Zane Fralick’s report Robert Waggomer, 59 of Pioneer, was east bound on Ridge Rd. when he was hit by a pickup truck, make and model unknown.

The pickup truck was driving westbound on Ridge Rd. when the driver suddenly shifted into the east bound lane and sideswiped Waggomer’s motorcycle. Waggomer was not injured in the accident however his motorcycle suffered extensive damage. The driver of the pickup truck fled the scene on Ridge Road and the victim was then unable to identify the suspect or the vehicle. Anyone with information is urged to call our local unit of CHP at 223-4890.

Just minutes later further upcountry an accident occurred on Hwy. 88 at OK Corral. According to the report 63 year old Vicki Pollock of Volcano was traveling east bound on Hwy. 88 behind a 17 year old juvenile driver. According to the report written by Investigating Officer Brian Hagemann the juvenile driver slowed and stopped to make a left turn into the OK Corral parking lot waiting for traffic to pass. Pollock looked to the left as she approached the intersection and when she looked back in front of her she observed that the juvenile driver was still stopped waiting for passing traffic. She slammed on her brakes, however was unable to avoid hitting the rear bumper of the vehicle. Pollock was transported to SAH with minor injuries while the juvenile driver was uninjured in the accident.

Later at 4:57pm another accident occurred at Shenandoah Rd. just east of Shenandoah School Rd. in the Plymouth area. According to the report written by Sgt. Joy Palmquist, 50 year old Becky Guichard, was slowing to make a left turn into Tuscano Winery. The CHP report states that 32 year old Patrick Freeman was traveling at 55 miles per hour and looked away from the roadway, apparently when he returned his focus to the roadway he observed Guichard’s vehicle however he could not avoid an accident and rear ended the vehicle. Guichard and her 2 passenger’s were transported to SAH with minor injuries.

On Saturday at 1:30pm the second hit and run accident of the weekend occurred. According to Officer Fralick’s report an unknown elderly male backed his vehicle into Juan Cougaun’s 2003 Volvo while leaving the Shenandoah Vineyard parking lot. No occupants were in the vehicle at the time of impact. Witnesses described the couple in the vehicle but apparently were not able to get the vehicle information. According to the report, “it is unknown if the elderly male knew he (even) hit the Volvo.”{mospagebreak}

 –A turkey was the cause of an accident that occurred Sunday on Hwy. 16 just west of Long Gate Road. Brian Orlando, 44 and of Carmichael was driving west bound on Hwy. 16 at 65 miles per hour. He observed that a turkey had just run out from the north roadway edge and took flight directly across his path. Orlando applied his brakes but did not have time to stop as the turkey smashed into the front of his 2003 Infiniti. According to Officer Hagemann’s report, (the) turkey is at fault for unsafe flying.
